Birthdays and outings

April and May came and gone so fast! So many activities during the last 2 months that I have yet to record in here. Lolz.

April:

Darling and I brought Cutie to her first “indoor playground” trip. There are so many indoor playgrounds springing up everywhere to cater to different ages, such as polliwogs, cool de sac, hokey pokey etc, I thought Singapore has a low birth rate?? Well, most of our generation parents think that the old-fashioned HDB playgrounds are dirty, not fun etc and it does not help when the weather is so super duper hot these days! Indoor playgrounds is the answer to all these! And if you have a maid, can even leave the maid with the kid in there while husband and wife can have some me-shopping-time! At Cutie’s age, there’s not much playgrounds that offer a play section for < 1 year olds. Cool De Sac happen to have a small section for infant play, so we decided to check it out. The area is quite big, but older kids will enjoy it more for it’s slides and bouncy obstacle course. The infant section is small but the users are small too mah, so it’s ok. There are many toys there, ranging from building blocks, to miniature animals and vegetables, to plastic rocking horse and the foam slides and foam blocks for climbing. Cutie takes a while to warm up to the slide and toys but after a while, she started to enjoy. She loved the pool full of colourful balls and especially the yellow rocking horse! Haha, maybe it’s because she love yellow stuff.

Go Yellow Horsie!

She loves the Freefall feeling, so the see-saw is one of her favorite HDB playground installments, see how much fun she has with Darling! Darling is having lots of fun too!

Cutie is becoming more mobile and it’s getting harder to get her to sit down in her high-chair for meals. We have to put distractions on her table such as toys, blocks, remote controls, cold packet drinks etc before we can get her to sit down to finish her food! We try very hard to instill the idea of having to sit down in the chair during meal times and she can only get out after eating. So far it has worked when she is in our own home and when she’s outside. =) She will quietly sit down in her baby seat when we feed her the puree or cereal.

May:

May is an exciting month with many important events! I love May as we have lots of opportunities to go out!

Our first outing in May is the River Safari! Cutie loves small animals, esp those that are very active with lots of movement, just like her! So cats, dogs, birds, monkeys are her favorite! She was so excited to see a monkey up close and personal, lolz that she keep pointing and laughing to herself when she saw the small monkeys jumping from branch to branch and walking on the railing. Cutie loves hide and seek as well, and she loves to look for monkeys hiding in trees and in the shrubs and will get super duper excited when she spots one. If she points into the bushes, there’s sure to be a monkey hiding there if we look hard enough. Her vision is perfect! She loves big animals as well but tend to lose her interest very fast because large animals usually move very slowly…. The appearance of the Pandas JiaJia and KaiKai got her interested for a while but cutie will lose focus once the pandas sit down to eat their leaves. Haha, but she don’t mind staying in the panda enclosure looking at other tourists while she enjoys the air-con.

My birthday falls on the first week of May so Darling has planned a surprise trip for Cutie and me on a Sunday. She drove using iPhone Apple Maps for the first time while I was in the backseat entertaining Cutie. Yeah! I love surprises!

Darling brought us to Sentosa RWS and the secret Birthday lunch will be at OCEAN Restaurant by Cat Cora, located within S.E.A Aquarium. We are having lunch in the Largest Aquarium, haha. Eating fish with fishes swimming around us is a wonderful experience. Cutie saw lots of fishes swimming around while she’s having her puree too. She enjoys seeing the schools of fish more than the single Manta Ray or Shark and points non stop too!

On my Actual birthday, Darling gave me another surprise! She ordered a rainbow cake for me! I always wanted to try a rainbow cake. so YAY I got 1! This rainbow cake is special, the colours are all made using natural ingredients and it’s supposed to be a natural rainbow cake. Colours not that vibrant but natural things are good! And it’s super yummy too! I love you Darling! Cutie enjoys singing the birthday song and keeps pointing to the candle flame rather than blow it out!

See How Excited Cutie is!!! Pardon my Fat Tummy. =p

The following week is another exciting event! It’s Darling’s First Mother’s Day!!!!! We had a combined celebration with my mum at Prima Tower revolving restaurant. Cutie again loves the cake cutting. She does not know how to blow out the candles yet but she sure is attracted to them!

Initially we planned to go Mount Faber and the Henderson Wave bridge but I guess Cutie is too tired so she slept while in the car. So we ended up chilling at the Vivo starbucks! Cutie had a fun time too, playing with her light sabre bubble stick. =p

The actual mother’s day was a real surprise treat for Darling! It’s her first Mother’s Day after all, so She deserves a special award…This prize is awarded by Cutie. She had her First Stand on Mother’s Day!! Can you imagine how excited we were when Cutie suddenly stood up on our bed?!??! We were like “WOWOWOWOWOW WOW!!!”
We applauded Cutie for her effort and she felt so proud! Then continued to attempt standing for longer durations, just to impress us and earn more applause! Haha We love this Hao-Lian behaviour of Cutie, it spurs her on to achieve new milestones!

Cutie amazes us and amuses us as much as we amuse her I feel. She is such a curious girl! She is a naughty cheeky girl as well! Sometimes we really dunno whether to be angry or amused when feeding Cutie Charlotte. She can really seal her mouth tight and no matter how we push the spoon, it will not go into her mouth! Sometimes it’s the last scoop of porridge that we can’t wait to put into her mouth and declare a Beautiful Victory but she will just seal her mouth tight and deny us that temporary gratification! How irritating! Lolz. The end result of the battle? Cutie will be transformed into a “大花猫”!

Darling and I used to go for several running events a year, but since her pregnancy and the arrival of Cutie, we have stopped doing so. The last one we went to was the StanChart marathon last year. So when the opportunity came for the baby-friendly running event, I immediately signed her and Cutie up!! Haha, I am talking about the Cold Storage Kids Run 2015 on 17 May 2015 @ The Meadows (Gardens By The Bay).

Darling and Charlotte in action!

Darling and Charlotte in action!

Cutie Charlotte loves vibrant colours and she loves her Elmo and Big Bird puppets! Every night without fail, she will give the puppets to her favorite Puppeteer to bring them alive…..And that favorite puppeteer is none other than…. ….

MaMa can always bring Elmo to life! Notice Barney on TV? Dunno why kids just love Barney... ...

MaMa can always bring Elmo to life! Notice Barney on TV? Dunno why kids just love Barney… …

I want to bring Cutie outdoors often, to let her feel the wind blowing in her face, to smell the scent of trees and the morning dew, to touch the silky smooth surface of a leaf and to see people of different ages engaging in activities. I hope this stimulates all her senses, to engage her enough to hopefully make her smarter. Hahaha, which parent do not want their child to be smart? So we decided to try out a new activity on 1 of the May Weekend. It was one of our favorite pak-toh activity too but too dangerous to try with a baby. Lucky they came up with this new vehicle so we can have some family fun time! This vehicle has no gears and no brakes! It moves really slowly and the speed is constant despite our maximum effort…so it’s a good workout for us parents too, while Cutie baby enjoys the breeze first hand in the front seat. Hahaha.

Happily driving the vehicle, enjoying the sea breeze on her face and hair blowing in the wind

As mentioned in the earlier paragraph, Cutie’s favorite cartoon DVD is “Barney in the Zoo”. Hope she likes the animals more than she likes Barney. She loves some of the animals featured in the DVD, essentially the Meerkats (Top Top favorite), Monkeys and Tigers. Everytime these animals are featured on the DVD, she will be glued to the TV screen and her index finger will start pointing to the animals on screen. She will even clap when the Meerkats appear! So we brought her out to the Zoo during the last weekend of May to show her the REAL deal! Haha.

We ended the zoo trip with a visit to the KidsWorld waterplay playground and she enjoyed the jets if water spraying onto her face and body and the huge water bucket pouring water over her head!

Since she likes waterplay, we brought her to another water playground at Changi City Point for another session of water fun! This time, we donned her with the Hello Kitty Swim Suit which darling has been DYING to let Cutie wear! Hahaha. Well, Darling got her wish and Cutie got to play in the right attire! And I got drenched too.

That brings us to the close of May. June is another big BIG month for us. It’s going to be Charlotte’s Birthday Month! How time flies, Charlotte is going to be 1 soon! We have planned a themed party for her and I will cover it in a blog post very soon!!

First wedding anniversary with our bundle of joy

Parent-teacher-meeting…never heard that term for a very long time.

We enrolled Cutie in an infant-care center since Dec 2014 and we had the first parent-teacher-meeting a few weeks ago. So fast time flies, Cutie has been inside the infant-care for 3 months.

I remember back in late last year, we were still discussing the care plans for Cutie once we all start work. Shall we leave her in an infant-care facility? Or leave her at grandmother’s home? Or hire a domestic helper?

Cutie is not the “easy” baby to take care of as she needs lots of care. We are aware of these and thus were quite hesistant of sending her an infant-care facility, fearing that teachers may not pay as much attention to Cutie’s various challenges as required. Cutie has sensitive skin and would have an eczema flare inermittently, she has problems finishing her milk and she was very dependant on the traditonal bab hammock to get to sleep.

We finally decided to go with this infant-care center Josiah Montessori @ Aperia, which offered 1:3 ratio and has available vacancy.

The teachers did manage to wean Cutie off the hammock after 2 weeks and it did surprise us when Cutie actually can fall asleep at night with just some patting and song humming.

Cutie is always the “On the move” baby and she loves getting on her feet and on her belly to explore new surroundings, new toys and new friends. Well, Charlotte means “Free Man” anyway, so she loves to roam around freely. During the parent-teacher-meeting, her main teacher showed me some of Charlotte’s on-the-move pics which were so cute!

Cutie can sit down to play on her own too, sometimes enjoying a quiet moment with her books and sometimes interacting with other babies. There was even a pic with Charlotte showing her friend how to play a cube!

Those were good moments in school but sometimes there can be lapses in Cutie’s care during the last 3 months there. On 3 occasions, Charlotte was handed back to us with very bad diaper rashes, even though she did not have diarrhoea. Never before did Charlotte had such a bad case of diaper rash. Darling would meticulously apply Desitin cream and clean up for Cutie over the weekend and ensure Charlotte’s buttocks were back to a clean normal state during the new week in school. However during the next weekend, Charlotte will again have an angry looking Diaper rash with bad excoriations. It’s so bad that Charlotte would refuse to sit down and cries whenever we change her diapers, it was that painful. Back-and-Forth communication with the teachers finally had them realize the importance of regular diaper checks and change. Hopefully Charlotte will have no more Diaper rash days.

================================================ Chinese New Year! Charlotte baby celebrated her first Chinese New year this year! Even though she didn’t manage to master the “Gongxi Gongxi” gesture, she still managed to collect her very first AngBao! Haha. She enjoyed the festival thoroughly as there were plenty of stimulation and interaction with adults and children. She was so high daily that she would jump around on bed and “talk” non stop even when her bedtime is way over!

Darling managed to dress cutie up for the occasion and gave her a 格格makeover. Hahaha.

Having cutie baby around in our lives have definitely brought more laughter and joy. Cutie baby is the ONLY ONE capable of making darling melt everytime. When darling is angry or sad, a smile from our Charlotte baby will lighten her mood every time. How I wish I have that power!

Today marks the our 9 years courtship anniversary and 3 years actual day grand shanghai wedding anniversary. The best years of my life so far. I’m sure there will be more years better than these 9 years coming along and I can’t wait to explore the world with my darling and cutie Charlotte. Next challenge is to go overseas with them!

32.7.10.224

In case you are wondering if this is an IP address… nope.

Make an educated guess what the numbers mean and maybe u are right?

It has been almost 11 weeks since my last entry about our Cutie Baby Charlotte, and a lot of interesting developments have taken place. =)

Sitting independently

Sitting independently

“Sit @ 7 months, crawl at 8″….the old saying passed down from our parents’ time…..Cutie does not seem to follow that and she is more like Sit @ 6th month, Crawl + stand + assisted walk @ 7. She is developing motor skills quickly and I am so looking forward to the day we can UNLEASE her in the park and let her run wild! I may have to source for rare materials to clothe Cutie before setting her loose, by royal decree from my Darling, les Cutie suffers any injuries. Of course Cutie has to be clothed with fairyleather infused with magical energies, wears a helmet made from  adamantine, dons a mithril vest, finally completed with knee and elbow guards made from Spidersilk….Now where can I find those materials…..Any ideas?

Cutie has grown bored of just flipping and rolling around (she only does that when throwing a tantrum), now she wants to grab hold of anything to assist her standing up. The world looks different from a higher perspective and she is enjoying that. We occasionally indulge her by lifting her up on our shoulders but we have to limit that if we still want to keep our hair…YES she pulls hairs! She can sit fairly comfortably on her own, leaving her hands free to play with toys or her favorite piano gym.

Cutie and her Piano play gym

Cutie and her Piano play gym

She can play on her own but she definitely prefers a playmate or many playmates. She will grab every opportunity to “Eh” an adult to play with her. Her small cutie head will follow you when u walk pass and then she will assess….if she fancies your company, she will either “eh” you over or she will start to crawl towards you…but if she is lazy to do that, she will just cry. She loves to just stand and bounce…she can just stand and bounce all day without feeling tired!!! Small bundle of energy which can be expanded beyond capacity… The solution??? The Fisher-Price Bouncer! Yeah!

Always wanting to stand, bounce and be entertained

Cutie is in childcare now for the last 6 weeks and she seems to be enjoying her time there. Teachers will be around her all the time and she is surrounded by other babies and cheerful people, singing songs. She feeds more regularly in school surprisingly and hope it helps with her weight gain! Well, with school and other children, there is bound to be viruses floating around and Cutie has been in and out of a cough since the start of Jan…missing a few days of school due to fever but she still remains cheerful most of the time. So, we kinda accepted that falling sick is part and parcel of school and it may be beneficial for Cutie in the long term by introducing her to the common viruses in the community, building up her immune system database. Nonetheless, we can see that Cutie is happy in school, as she will readily jump into the arms of her favorite teacher Angie every morning and reluctantly let me carry her away from school every evening. Haha. Hope she develops more inter-personal skills in school! I want our Cutie to be a sociable, adorable, smart active baby!

Cutie went for her KKH checkup in early Jan 2015. Her weight was 6.44kg, which maintained her at the 25th percentile but we are glad her height is at the 50-75th percentile and head circumference at 50th percentile…does that mean she has more potential to be intelligent?? We sure hope so! Hmm…now Charlotte looks so puny next to her ~7.8 kg cousin Joshua who is just 4 month old!!

Charlotte has started eating solids and Her masterchef Mummy spared no effort to create nutritious purees for her! Every week we would raid the supermarket in search of yummilicious stuff to make her puree. Currently she has tried brown rice, wholegrain cereal, millet rice, pumpkin, potatoes (Her Favourite!!), tomatoes, threadfin fish, sweet corn, carrots, beetroot, tofu, Kale. Fruits she has tried apples, bananas, orange, avocado (her Ex-favourite), Strawberries (Her favourite!!).

Darling has been wanting to try this with Cutie during 1 of our super-market trips and we eventually did it!!! (After a massive wipedown with several pieces of baby wipes…)

Cutie shopping for her “MumMum”

Yup, she enjoyed it for a while because the metal pieces are cold cold to the touch but after 30 min, she wants out…maybe she wants to push the shopping trolley!?!?

Charlotte has brought much joy into our lives and it’s amazing just to see how she’s learning new things and achieving new milestones. There’s never a dull moment in our lives now that Cutie is in the house! Of course, Poor mummy is often tired out by caring for her and coping with her busy work…Cutie is a bundle of energy which takes a long time to use up and takes a short time to recharge. Haha maybe they are made that way so they can ever-ready to learn from the fast changing world.

Mummy is still recharging but Cutie Charlotte has finished her Charge Cycle and ready for more activities!!!

Darling and I celebrate our 5th year wedding anniversary on the 31st Jan and I am indeed blessed to have 2 angels in my life now!

And Finally… Yes 32.7.10.224, it’s the age of Cutie Baby Charlotte on this day… 32 weeks ie 7 months 10 days ie 224 days. Did you get it right? =)

21 weeks of Naughtiness

Cutie baby is 21 weeks old today! Well, still a far distance from 21 years old and getting the key but I rather she is 21 weeks old than 21 years old now. Who knows if she will still want us around her at 21 years old? At least when she is still 21 weeks, she DEFINITELY wants us around her!

Cutie Charlotte is an early waker, She usually will sleep very early at about 7-8pm, when she will start whining and asking for milk milk and bed at the same time! Darling will pat her to semi-sleep mode then Cutie will drink her Dream-feed before going to LaLa-Land. She can sleep 4-6 hours at night before waking up for her next feed. She starts the day early, often waking up at 5-6am, then will start her “baby-talk” and even kicks Mummy to wake her up! Haha doesn’t work with me, coz I sleep like a pig!

Wide awake Cutie still in her sleeping bag

Wide awake Cutie still in her sleeping bag

Cutie loves “flapping her wings” as Darling will say. She will open her arms wide and quickly slaps down on her tummy repeatedly whenever she is excited or happy. Hahaha, similar to a bird flapping wings, just that Cutie will not fly out of her rocker when she does that. At 21 weeks, Cutie is super curious about her surroundings, trying to absorb everything she sees or hears. Sometimes we feel she is too curious and is easily distracted. When we bring her out, feeding time is always a challenge as she will be more interested in look-look-see-see more than her milk-milk. She will rather play with her uncle TJ, auntie Val and PoPo than drink her milk milk. Sigh… Her cousin, Joshua, is finishing his 3 hourly 120ml milk feed while she is struggling with drinking 100ml….How to grow fat fat??

With Cutie around, Our life will never have a dull moment coz she won’t allow us that! Hahaha. She Baby-talks a lot, cries for attention when she sees nobody around her, screams when she is left hungry or soiled, shrieks if she wants to sleep and is unable to fall asleep herself. She loves to play too! Cutie has rattling toys, teethers, a cuddly ball, a piano play-gym and 2 humans as playmates. Hope she gets the stimulation through free play and grow up smart!

Fisherprice Piano Play-gym, create music as she plays! She loves the blue elephant with big red ears.

We are bringing Cutie out every week, trying to get some life of our own back. Hehehe, lucky somebody inverted the baby carrier so we can be more mobile with 2 hands free. At least I have 1 hand to pat Cutie, 1 hand to hold my darling while we are shopping and I can still kiss Cutie on her head….On the move! Yeah. We have been to Westgate, Tampines mall, Marina Square, Expo, Vivo, City Square etc, hoping to explore more. Notice they are all indoor places?? Yeah, cannot venture to Nature yet coz weather too hot nowadays and Cutie will have eczema flare when she sweats too much, and my darling is paranoid about Mozzies targeting her cutie baby. But 1 fine day, I will make sure Cutie loves Nature too. Aspiring to bring her to nature reserves to touch the leaves, smell the air and play with grass, to the beach to play with sand…Hahaha I guess my darling will freak out soon…

Mummy carrying Cutie using Carrier

Cutie loves her bath time too, kicking and splashing the water all over the floor, occasionally we see her secretly sucking the bath water from the face towel we used to wipe her. Lolz, dirty girl. “Ding Ding” an idea from Darling—why don’t we let her go swimming?? Can exercise too….

Great idea Darling! So during one of the Baby Fairs @ Expo, we signed up for the babyspa package. We signed for a 20 session package and it comes with 10 free baby massage sessions. Babyspa has several outlets in different parts of Singapore so it will be easier for us to bring Cutie to explore Singapore…by going to different outlets. Hehehe, great thinking. From the looks of it, Cutie does enjoy being in her own big bath tub, especially with the Jacuzzi function switched on!

Darling even bought Cutie a Hello Kitty towel to use after her Swim-Swim! Haha, Darling couldn’t go for this year’s Hello Kitty Run so she will make Cutie baby her Hello Kitty! Hmm… maybe we could name her Hello Kit-Tan??

Cutie Cutie Look

Cutie Cutie Look

14 weeks and counting…

Charlotte reached several milestones the last 2 weeks.

She can lift up her head from week 10 and is ever so curious to turn her head from left to right, trying to take in as much scenery as possible with her black round eyes. Yes, she can track objects as well for a full 180 degrees if she is interested in it, even at a distance! Maybe I am fat, so more easily trackable… … Hmm…

She smiles more for us and seems to recognize faces too, especially appears more friendly by kicking her legs when she sees faces who will potentially indulge her by carrying her and pat pat her in their arms. (Me included… Lolz, guilty me…. How not to carry her when she shows you her ever-so-cute eyes with 2 drops of tears at the edges??? I will melt lo! But I will try)

Hahaha, Darling and I have been limiting Cutie’s carrying time so she will not get pampered too much. We are trying not to indulge her too much les she feels it is a norm to get patted or carried 24 hours a day, whenever she is awake. As far as possible, we seat her in a rocker and play with her. Yes, she loves to play, especially if she can hear different sounds when she is playing. I try to talk to her, in our language, in her language and in an alien language…she seems to like to talk! She feels entertained by me dancing in front of her and is super amused when I am imitating her cries. Hahaha, So cute! Sometimes she will “fake” a cry to get carried and hugged and I will irritate her by imitating her cry, such that she don’t know whether to laugh or cry…so she will wail a bit, then crack up a big smile and wail a bit more before giving up and continue playing by herself. It’ s such a joy to have her around and to play with her.

Darling is the more studious one, reading stories to her, singing nursery rhymes while I am the nonsense one, trying to entertain her, machiam a court jester trying to make a princess smile. We even got a puppet book to read to her, she seems to enjoy more of the puppet moving than the story read but that doesn’t matter, as long as she is happy and drinks her milk milk.

I got a chance for daddy-cutie bonding last week, when Darling and her mum went for Cavalia @ MBS. Quite an exciting experience. I was pushing the pram with cutie inside till the entrance of the white tent theater of Cavalia, then I am left alone with Cutie. Heehee, yeah! I pushed Charlotte around Marina Promenade, letting her admire the Singapore Skyline and night lights, enjoying the cool night breeze. She may be tired after so much lights stimulation, and started rubbing her eyes and yawning, so I drove her back home all by myself, with her in the car seat of course! Initially she was all cranky as I woke her up from her slumber and transferred her to the car seat. She was crying loudly while in the car, but after a short journey, she drifted back to sleep again.

Last week we went to celebrate TJ’s birthday! TJ is darling’s little brother AKA Cutie’s uncle or Jiu Jiu. It’s his 21st Birthday and we decided to doll Charlotte up with the dress TJ bought! She seems a bit small for the dress but still sweet nonetheless! We went to Diamond Kitchen at Marine Parade, place looks nice with good food at reasonable prices. Cutie enjoyed the outing, but she has to be contented with her bottled milk while we indulge in yummy food!

Cutie also started to flip last week! She is able to flip from back lying to tummy proning position with a little bit of help at times, and she will be happily lifting up her head to enjoy the scenery from a different perspective again! But she cannot last long though, once she feels tired and yet unable to flip back, she will start to CRY for help! So amusing! Hahaha. Mummy Darling bought a new toy for her this week too! It is a gloved teether and also serves to prevent her from rubbing her eyes too much! It also instantly transformed her into CAPTAIN CUTIE HOOK!!

Captain Cutie Hook! Zap Zap you

Captain Cutie Hook! Zap Zap you

We took her to the polyclinic 2 days back for her 3rd month vaccination this week. It will be her first dose of 5-in-1 as well as pneumococcal vaccine, 1 on each thigh. She screamed when the needle went in but settled down after a few pats, such a brave girl! Wonder if it’s more painful for Cutie or more painful for my Darling. Darling seems to be on the verge of crying when seeing Cutie scream, but Cutie put on a brave front and composed herself really quickly! Well Done Cutie!

She is growing taller but somehow her weight gain is slowing down… hmm… not the Michelin Baby darling is hoping for with the meat creases on her arms and legs and tummy. But hopefully Cutie can catch up on her potential of a big, tall healthy baby! She was born at the 90th percentile but her weight is only 10-25 percentile now, height at 75th percentile. Jiayou Cutie! Grow Grow Grow!

Poor Cutie had fever yesterday and was cranky after her vaccinations, drinking only 3/4 of what she used to drink. Darling has been taking good care of cutie with regular sponging and syrup panadol. Thank you Darling for everything!

Looking forward to more good things with Cutie Baby and eagerly waiting for her to do more new things! Having a baby is amazing! Thank you darling for giving me a chance to be a father! I love you!

Now eagerly waiting for Baby Joshua to pop out this week, and Cutie will have a new playmate!

First Outing with Cutie Baby

We have been pondering this for quite a while… …Can we handle cutie baby when we are outside?
Since the arrival of this bundle of cuteness, apart from making short trips to the polyclinic for checks and short trips for our newborn photoshoot, we have been pretty much stuck at home. Last weekend we could have made the trip to Sushi Tei for Darling’s sashimi fix but we ended up having Sakae Sushi as take-away coz Cutie Charlotte can’t seem to settle down. This weekend we are determined to make the trip out again! Yeah! Challenge of the day!

Challenge 1: Take Cutie Charlotte out on a day trip to Alive Museum @ Suntec City.
Challenge 2: Take photos with the 3D interactive illusionary installations
Challenge 3: Complete challenges 1 & 2 and return home before sunset (Coz Lunar 7th month cannot go home late, especially with Cutie Baby)

Challenge 1: Tickets bought online @ 20% off, so each ticket costs S$20, valid for 1 month. If we buy tickets on-site, it will be S$25 but with a free BK meal *(Fish n Crisp/Chick n Crisp only). I still feel the online offer is more attractive. =) We waited for Cutie’s feeding at 1.30pm and we set off at 2pm. Reached at 2.30pm and we proceeded to Suntec Tower 3…to our horror, there’s a queue to go in!

It’s a 1 hour wait. During the whole 1 hour, we left Cutie in the Maclaren Stroller, Darling even managed to change Cutie’s diapers while in the queue, with Cutie still in the stroller. Good start…until Cutie starts her hysterical crying bout. Louder and louder it became, Cutie almost seems like trying to overpower the background music with her cry! BOBIAN, we gave in and Darling carried Cutie. Eventually, we put Cutie in the Babysling, and the mini mobile Sarong did the trick of soothing her.
We went through the exhibits with Cutie all the way in the sling! Poor Darling have to carry Cutie all the way.

Time passes fast. Cutie baby is very cooperative throughout the whole visit, sleeping comfortably inside the baby sling, even beyond her feeding time! The Museum is super crowded lo! Takes a long time to get our turn at every photo and it’s not possible to take all the shots with Darling carrying Cutie baby around. Too dangerous as the crowd will push and squeeze. We had to bypass a few shots but nonetheless, we had quite a lot of decent poses as shown above. =p
The cutest shot of them all will be this curious giraffe trying to have a lick at Cutie.

We left the museum at about 5.30. Cutie cried for her milk milk on the way to the car. Hahaha. She has been very cooperative already. She deserves her feed!
Well, quite a mission success this time, maybe we can set a bigger challenge next time out!

The Sound of Music

Yay! The day has finally come! We can finally have a session of relaxation together, Darling and me, enjoying a musical. Heehee. Cutie Baby meanwhile in lying on her rocker at Grandma’s place. Hahaha. Leave her alone while we go dating.
Hey, Darling worked hard to care for cutie, so she deserves this break k!
I Love You Darling!

The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music

I got introduced to The sound of Music during my primary school and secondary school music lessons. I remember teacher will play this short clip from a very old CD where the actors all sing and do not talk. Then we will listen to a few songs, after which we will learn to sing them.
Wow, I didn’t know so many songs we used to sing during the music lessons came from this musical!
It’s a musical from 1959 I think, based on a memoir written by Maria von Trapp, just before World War 2 and Hitler’s Germany is able to invade Austria. Maria is an Austrian girl raised on the mountains separating Austria from Switzerland, and she is postulating to join the local abbey as a nun. The musical stage was small but it is still able to create the environment of the abbey, with the nuns singing the church songs or chants, then nuns starting coming off stage and walking the aisles, singing at the same time! We had an immediate surround sound of church song, totally immersing us in the perfect ambience.
The props were excellent and transition smooth. The actors on stage were great! Great vocals and the children were so adorable! Hope our Cutie Baby can grow up and sing as good as them!
Well, we know that Cutie Baby has a wide variety of pitches and notes she can reach from her shrieks, screams and screeching and crying. Hahahahaha. We will cultivate and train her multiple tones and pitches to make her a perfect singer! Yeah!
The songs were so fun to listen to and seeing the actors performing the songs is pure enjoyment. The Sound of Music, Do-Re-Mi, 16 going on 17, So long farewell, Edelweiss, Wow! I am so totally blown away!
Hope Darling enjoyed it too! More musicals to go! Yeah!
Cutie baby has to wait at least 15 more years before she can understand and appreciate these musicals, so wait lay Cutie, your time will come. Lolz
Darling Loved the songs so much that she even wanted to buy the music CD! Now we are going to play it on loop mode to Cutie baby everyday! Maybe someday she will start singing those songs to us!

Penang – JB escapade 18-22 Feb 2014

We have been planning to go on a holiday during Cutie baby’s second trimester, however we have been debating whether to go on a Germany trip (as part of our Europe exploration) or just do a short trip.
Our reservations about the Germany trip were 1) the long haul, 2) the possibility of air-sickness and lack of proper rest ruining the holiday mood, 3) the limitation of exploration with darling ferrying cutie baby in her tummy… …
So we finally decided to go on a short trip. Now the “typical short trip destinations” would include China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong which we do not find any “crave” to visit now.

Darling suddenly has a bright idea, “Aiyah, we just visit our nearby LEGOLAND and Hello Kitty World bah, then shelve our Germany plan till when Cutie baby comes out. Then YOU will be the one carrying Cutie Baby!”
It was an excellent idea, holidaying is meant for us to spend time together, exploring new frontiers, so it does not matter where we go. What matters is we enjoy!

So JB it shall be! JB a bit un-adventurous, why not add in another state! Penang comes to mind, after reading about the new art scene and yummy Penang food, and most important of all, Penang is a state that darling never went before! BINGO!

We took Tigerair from Singapore to Penang as it provides the best timing. We reached Penang at 10am and took the airport taxi to our hotel in Gurney Drive.

Room is spacious and most important of all, it faces the sea for a view “if required”. Haha, not that we will spend much time in the hotel admiring the sea but it’s something good to have!
once checked in, washed up, Eatinking has a mission to complete… … find FOOD to feed sleepinqueen!
First stop is the nearby Kopitiam for our first taste of Penang Food.

We had the famous Hokkien Mee AKA Har Mee AKA prawn noodles, the Curry Mee and Thick Savoury Lor Mee.
Let the pictures do the talking!

New Cathay Kopi Kedai

After the food, we walked towards the street with the Thai Buddhist temple and Burmese temple facing each other.
Wat Chayamangkalaram houses the famous reclining Buddha which is gold plated and stretches 33 meters (one of the largest reclining Buddha in the world).
Flanking the entrance are a pair of Nagas.
This is the reclining Buddha. Of course I asked permission to take photo.
Behind the reclining Buddha are several Bodhisattva which represents the Chinese zodiacs. So we each found our representing ones and made a wish. Darling has 2 coz she is carrying Cutie Baby too!

After that we crossed the road and entered the Dhammikarama Burmese Buddhist Temple. The gate is not as impressive as the Thai one but the interior definitely is more impressive. The long corridors has pictures depicting the life of Buddha and the backyard contains several interesting statues. The most impressive are the pair of Panca Rupa AKA world guardians. Panca Rupa is Sanskrit, meaning it possesses a combination of the best parts of 5 animals: trunk and tasks of elephants, four hoofed legs and 2 agile ears of the horse, the lion-faced Chimera, the deer’s horns, the body and tail of the fish and the 2 powerful wings of the Garuda.

Next stop is another landmark in Penang, the Pinang Peranakan Museum. The peranakans AKA Babas and Nyonyas, was a prominent community of accultured Chinese unique to this part of the world, especially in the Straits Settlements (Penang, Malacca and Singapore). The community has adopted ways of the local malays, the colonial British and created a unique lifestyle and customs, not to mention their Nyonya Kuehs and yummy peranakan dishes! This museum is also used for the shooting of several movies and TV serials, including our perennial favourite “The Little Nyonya”!

Pinang Peranakan Museum

We spent a good amount of time admiring the house, the antiques and taking a short break from the heat. Next we shall attempt to look for our first mural! This is the most exciting part of our Penang trip, to go mural hunting! Ever since the first murals done by Lithunian artist Ernest Zacharevic, in conjunction with Penang’s Georgetown festival, several new artists has attempted murals as well as steel installations to brighten up the art scene in Penang and it’s all too exciting!

The first 2 murals are located along Gat Lebuh Chulia
The first mural is “Children on the swing”. See how happy and curious the children are!

Children playing Swing with Darling

The next mural is a bit tricky as it’s hidden behind a stupid truck! Lucky there’s another couple of mural hunters who spotted it and we followed them! Haha.

Next we proceeded across the main road Pengkalan Weld to our next checkpoint, the Clan Jetties.
This is a traditional settlement created by Chinese immigrant who share a common historical, geographical and lineage origin. Today there are still 6 clan jetties along the waterfront, namely the clan Jetties of Lim, Chew, Tan, Lee, Yeoh and 1 of Mixed clan. We went to Lim Jetty first as we were attracted by the sugarcane lorry. Haha, I finally found the ORIGINAL Sugarcane! This is the one we grew up drinking. The sugarcane is plump and smooth and very green. This is different from the sugarcane used in Singapore nowadays where it’s more light green and the surface is ridged. Somehow I feel the juice from this smooth one tastes sweeter. Maybe I am biased but I like this better! And it is a good chance to show Darling what I mean by the “old sugarcane vs the new sugarcane” while we were having sugarcane juice in Singapore.

Lim Jetty and SugarCane Juice lorry

Lim Jetty and SugarCane Juice lorry

Brave darling has to overcome her fear of the planks over water and walked the planks with me to explore the various houses built over water. I wonder if all these households have the surname Lee?

The next Jetty we visited is the next door Chew Jetty. It’s lined with shops selling souvenirs now, with magnets and caps and hats the main goods on sale. We bought a set of magnets featuring all the original Ernest Murals!
The reason why this jetty is so popular is that it’s one of the bigger ones around and there was a Ernest Zacharevic mural here which had almost vanished due to the sea wind corrosion. We can barely make out the mural now. It’s a pity, lucky we still have magnets to preserve that memory.

Chew Jetty and faded mural

After a tiring day, with poor darling carrying Cutie Baby around, we settled down at one of the shortlisted café across the road, “Patio”. Apart from murals, Penang has become home to a few “famous” cafés and Darling have kindly short-listed some for us to visit. I will share the interesting photos of the cafés in the later parts. Patio is a café by day but night-time will see it transformed into a happening pub. The courtyard has a “green wall” and it keeps the whole area cool despite the blistering heat outside!
We had some appetizers coz we are saving our tummies for the feast tonight!

Patio

The final stop is dinner and the obvious choice for us is Gurney Drive Food Center!
We hired a taxi, paid the standard fare and we are on our way. (Can’t remember if it’s 25 or 30 RM). The taxi uncle told us the the Gurney Drive food center will close a day a week, and it happens to be tomorrow night! Lucky we decided to come tonight instead! Heng ah!!

We arrived at 7+ and the crowd has not arrived yet. We can find seats easily. It feels like our Newton Circus Hawker, just that it’s more hapzard with mobile tables and chairs. The popular stores will have queues forming and drink and dessert stores will be scattered around the area. Every store has their “territory”, especially the drinks and desserts store. Many a times we have to order something from them, in order to sit at “their table”. Not that we are complaining, the weather is just too hot that a glass of cold barley or a cup of cold LuoHanGuo drink is just not enough!

gurney drive dinner day 1

After a feast of Assam Laksas, Orh Jian, Cendols, Char Kway Tiao, we decided it’s time to stop. Haha, I could just carry on eating forever!! It’s so cheap there, every dish is about 3.50 to 4.50 RM and they give a really big bowl! We slowly strolled back to our hotel, enjoying the cool sea breeze… … Hand in hand… … Ahhhhhh…. Life should be this good… …

————————Day 2 Mural hunt——————————————————-

Rise and Shine!
Day 2 starts and we will be Mural Hunters today as we aim to cover as many of the murals, old and new today, from the original Ernest murals to new-age murals, to cat murals and even Minion murals!
But the day always starts with Good breakfast! New venture to another Kopi Kedai to sample new food!

Yummy Penang breakfast

Off we go after the hearty breakfast, we took a cab back to the Jetties and start our journey from there.
Hope the mural research can pay off today!
Starting point Pengkalan Weld, cross the road and enter Gat Lebuh Armenian. There are a series of Cat murals along this street as well as along Lebuh Victoria. These are created to raise awareness for pets and street animals, some are pretty interesting! Enjoy!

Cat Murals, some are destroyed. Best pic is Darling the Mouse FACE-OFF with Skippy the cat!

At the end of Gat Lebuh Armenian, we have to cross the Lebuh Pantai. Branching from Lebuh Pantai are 2 streets with murals, the Lebuh Ah Quee and Lebuh Armenian. We went Lebuh Ah Quee first as there were only 3 murals there while the bulk of murals are along Lebuh Armenian.

At this point, we have to take a breather and sitter. Just nice that there’s a café along the street to rest our tired legs.
Edelweiss café has a nice interior with old style tables and a ancient clock and some nice playful decorations dotted around the café, especially along the way to the toilet.

We have a super interesting find along the way! During the childhood times when we had ice kacang back in Singapore, my parents would tell me about this ice ball which costs 10cents back in their times when there is no ice kacang. It’s called “Czeg Buah”, I think it’s a combination of hokkien and malay (“Czeg”means ice in Hokkien and “buah” means Ball/fruit in malay). They used to hold the ice balls using their hands and suck the syrup out of the ball, then use the ball to have a ice throwing battle, maciam like the snow fight ang-mohs have.
I never expected to find the legendary ice ball still present in this present world! We found it in Penang, along the mural hunting trail.
Darling somehow can always find the right way to suck the syrup out of the ice ball!

After the old man mural, we took a left turn onto Lebuh cannon, where we found a mural of a cute boy reaching for something.

I can reach but you cannot reach. Bleh =p

I can reach but you cannot reach. Bleh =p

Our next break is coming up soon. After the “reaching up” mural, we made our way to Khoo Kongsi.
Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi is one of the most distinctive Chinese clan association in Malaysia. It has an extensive lineage which can be traced back 650 years ago. The main attraction is the magnificent clanhouse Leong San Tong. The khoo Kongsi complex actually consists of the clanhouse, an admin building with a meeting hall, an opera stage opposite the clanhouse and 62 units of terrace houses and shophouses.

Khoo Kongsi. Notice the Khoo family members who have 光宗耀祖-ed all have a golden signboard to their name.

After our short pit stop at Khoo Kongsi, we journeyed on for our next food stop at Lebuh Carnarvon…YEAH! We went to try the legendary Seng Thor coffee shop Orh Jian!
The crispy Orh Jian is combined with a generous serving of Orh, coupled with the yummy garlic chili makes this dish truly one of the best I have tasted so far!
Even though it may not be the healthiest dish around, but heck lah! The Orh Jian is Sedap!

Seng Thor Orh Jian! Worth the calories!

Seng Thor Orh Jian! Worth the calories!

We decided to use up some of our calories by walking to the next mural cum food stop. We walked along Lebuh Carnarvon, turned left into Lebuh Campbell and came to our next pit stop and a shortlisted café stop… The Moustache Houze. It’s a 3 storey shophouse and meant to be a café cum boutique hotel. Moustache Houze is themed on moustaches and the décor is full of cute moustaches and retro stuff. The tables, shelves are made of recycled window grills, metal door grills, pipes, benches. There is this nice corner with swing chairs and we rushed there straight away!!! A pity the swings are fixed, if not we will really swing till the cows come home. There is a corner with a mural of an old uncle carrying a child on his shoulders. The boy looks so amused and excited at something above and the lightbulbs complete the picture!
This is such a cosy café and should be a good hangout place for Penangnites. Darling ordered the special Kiwi ice cubes drink where kiwi juice is frozen into cubes and we are supposed to pour cold soda to mix and drink. I got the Chocolate icecubes drink which is supposed to be mixed with the flask of warm milk. Fresh interesting ideas! The pistachio cheesecake is a delightful treat too! No wonder we got the last piece! The straws come complete with tiny moustaches and serves as a nice souvenir and photo prop.

After the short but deserving break, we carried on the journey to search for the murals! Walking along Lebuh Campbell, we reached Jalan Penang. Turning right and walking along Jalan Penang, we stumbled upon the huge mural in the open-air carpark…

The Cheong Fatt Tze mansion is just behind, a pity they have converted to a hotel and only allows 3 fixed timings for guided tours. Since we could not make it in time, we admired from outside. It looks dilapidated and kinda eerie with the broken timber doors and ceilings. But the architecture is beautiful.

It is about late afternoon now and we still 1 more mural to complete our entire collection! Walking along Jalan Muntri, we are keeping a constant lookout for the last giant mural… and behold the Lady in Blue, trying to lift herself up using the window shelters!

lady in blue

Yay!!!! We completed our mural hunt successfully! Time to reward ourselves with another trip to the café. Hahaha.
Before we reached our designated café, we passed by this cool café called “Behind 50”, décor is cool, notice how the bicycle passed through the wall!

Behind 50, passing by the Kungfu Ah Ma!

Walk ah walk, as the sky slowly darkens, we reached the highlioght café of our trip…..presenting Café 55!
This is Café 55, popular for it’s coffee art. This is not your usual coffee art ok! It’s 3D coffee art! How often do you see that!

Well, no matter how nice the coffee art is, it has to end up in out tummies, Buahahahah, but at least they will live on in our photos!
We backtracked to Jalan Penang, passed back the “lady in blue” mural…Boy it does look kinda eerie in the dark…
Nonetheless, we strolled along Jalan Penang, hoping to catch some kopi Kedai that’s open but I guess it’s just too late… already 9pm.
In the end, we ended up eating at Kenny Roger’s in a shopping mall. Well, at least it’s still a decent cheap Kenny Roger’s meal.

——————————————-Day 3—————————————

Today shall be a HOLY day.
It’s a super hot day again, blistering heat. We had breakfast at another recommended kopi kedai… never fails to deliver. Yummy Penang Food!
Char Kway Kak and Hokkein Mee and Kopi-peng for breakfast. Yay Yay Yay!

Our last breakfast in Penang

Our last breakfast in Penang

We walked along Jalan Burmah after breakfast to hunt for Darling’s favourite Tao Sar Piah! It is a battle between Him Heang and Ghee Hiang. Him Heang is the local Penangnites champion while Ghee Hiang is the one boasting 155 years of tradition. Him Heang is exclusive and can only be bought at their factory along Jalan Burmah, while Ghee Hiang has many branches scattered around Penang…and they recently opened an outlet along Jalan Burmah too! Haha, how thoughtful so we can buy both brands within easy reach.
The Him Heang is unmistakeable. The aroma is in the air even before we see the building! Really baked fresh!

Bonus!! We happened to catch Apong Guan across the road in front of Union Primary School! Apong (Apom) is a pancake actually. Apon Guan dishes out yummy fluffy pancakes with sliced bananas and corn and it only costs 50 cents Ringgit a piece! We gobbled down 2 each before catching a taxi to our destination! Should have bought more!! Ah Guan even smiled for the camera!

Apong Guan

Today we are climbing all the highest peaks of Penang. First peak to conquer is the Penang Hill. It boasts of the steepest railway climb in the world, steeper than Hong Kong’s Peak. The tram is imported from Switzerland and it really can whiz us up the hill in a jiggy! Poor Darling has a fear of heights… but she made it up and down the hill!
Penang Hill has not much attractions, majority of the people came up to escape the city heat. It’s still scorching but at least it is cooler up here. We tried the freshly baked Tao Sar Piah while getting a break too! Fresh Tao Sar Piah!!! No fight no fight, they are damn good! Him Heang’s Tao Sar Piah are still warm! I fell in love with freshly baked Tao Sar Piah! WooHoo!!!

Penang Hill and freshly baked Him Heang

They are building a canopy walk but the scenery is not as great as Hong Kong’s peak so we didn’t bother exploring…not just us…nobody bothered exploring it… Hahaha.

Our next destination will be the Holy Grail of Penang Laksa…. The Air Hitam market Penang Laksa! Which is just 5 minutes car ride from Penang Hill.
This is truly GOLD STANDARD! The soup base is so fragrant and full of fish! The spiciness and sourness is just at the right mix. When mixed together with the prawn paste, the taste is heavenly. Added in the crunch of fresh cucumbers and lettuce and soft rice noodles, this is truly Laksa Heaven! Next surprise is, the price is the same as any other Penang Laksa! This legend can whip up such miraculous Penang Laksa and he does not charge more even though he is so so so famous now. This commands RESPECT!

Air Hitam Penang Laksa. No1 in Penang and possibly the whole of the region

We trekked up the slope to Kek Lok Si, which is one of the largest Buddhist Temple in Southeast Asia, passing by several shops selling almost the same things, T-shirts, bags, useless souvenirs…wonder why some tourists would even bother to buy…
Jiayou Darling for the climb!

Atop the first hill, we had a short breather, taking a unique elevator up the second hill where the newly minted Bronze Guan Yin is located. It is still not open to devotees but Guan Yin is there for all to see from afar.
This is sculptured by the same bunch who did the Sitting Buddha in Hong Kong Lantau island. There are some similarities in the eyes I think. SO serene…

Today happens to be a festival for praying I think, maybe for turning the fortune. We explored the temple complex, climbing hills, knocking bronze bell and climbing the pagoda. Man, we are really sincere. Hope Buddha and Guan Yin will bless us with a healthy baby and a blissful family life together for many many many years to come!

Kek Lok Si

Kek Lok Si

Next up is the Holy Grail of Cendol. The dessert which is synonymous with Penang, The Penang Cendol! The most famous being The Penang Road Cendol. We got the cab to drive us direct to the Cendol store, without which we cannot consider ourselves as having completed the food pilgrimage in Penang. As expected, the crowd is there but the cendol is whipped up very fast so waiting time is negligible. The cendol is really soft and the coconut milk base very aromatic. Add in the Gula Melaka and the Big soft red beans, this dish is perfect. Darling finds some similarities between this and the Melacca one which I have to agree…Eh Masterchef say one leh, must be true! To me, they both taste great!

Since we are at this area, I proposed to hunt for another mural which is at this area as well and YES! Darling was game enough to join in my madness!

Dinner Dinner, our last dinner in Penang. We went to New Lane Kopitiam, which is an open-air concept with stalls lining the road. They will deliver the food to the nearby kedai kopi. This place offers variety but somehow the quality is lacking. Maybe we have eaten the best, so we find this place not as good. But still, good convenient place to savour all of Penang’s famous dishes.

Hailed a taxi back to hotel, collected our bags and off we go to Penang International Airport for our flight to Johor Bahru. This airport is quite Cui AKA shattered glass AKA damn lousy. There is no proper chairs for passengers to sit down! So we ended up sitting in the multiple massage chairs.

The flight was smooth and we arrived in JB earlier than scheduled BUT we have to wait for a long while before the connecting tube can be attached to the plane for us to walk into the airport. In the end, we came out of the airport quite late, about 11+ pm.
Took the airport taxi to our hotel KSL Resort and checked in. Location is good, being sited above a mega shopping mall but the bad thing is, there are no late night eateries around here….even if there is, we wouldn’t have the guts to go out so late at night on the streets of JB.

The solution? “Room Service in-house dining” Actually not bad leh! Darling says that the hotel will send motorbikes out to buy the food back and then the hotel will plate them nicely using the hotel plates and sell to us at high profit margins… maybe but now we are both too hungry to care anymore. Tuck in!

———————————————Day 4 —————————————————–

Today is LEGOLAND day, after opening so long, we finally set foot on LEGOLAND! Before that we had a Burger King breakfast at the nearby Mendici mall. Not too bad since I got a free Coke light thanks to a mistake by the counter staff.

After breakfast/brunch we start our LEGOLAND themepark adventure! Immediately inside the theme park, we can see multiple LEGO characters like the tourist, clown, sleeping man, policeman etc scattered around the theme park so we can find some “thrill” of looking out for them.

Legoland miniatures

Legoland part 3

Legoland part 3

LEGOLAND is big as compared to Universal Studio Singapore but I feel that they have not made use of the land wisely. A lot of empty plots of land within the theme park and they wasted more space by setting up stores which we see very frequently at Pasar Malams, such as throw the rings on bottle openings, hooking fish etc to win some LaoPok looking pirated Minion. Hey wake up the idea LEGOLAND! We did not come here to play Pasar Malam games, we are here to experience a land made of Lego, look what they have given us! Crappy rides, unimaginative castle, not-so-impressive 4D shows and mascots which looked uninspiring and failed to draw many people queueing up for photographs with mascots. In all other themeparks, guests would rush to get a picture with ANY mascots but here in LEGOLAND, the mascot was really standing there ALONE, with nobody queueing up aside from the 1-2 guests who HAPPENED to be a the area… Wake up the idea LEGOLAND!

More miniatures and the Lonely LEGO mascot

More miniatures and the Lonely LEGO mascot

The good thing….and the ONLY good thing about LEGOLAND is the Lego Miniworld. It’s amazing how they can LEGO-up entire buildings, cities, including the people, cars, flowers, animals etc. Darling was disappointed at the miniworld, she would have hoped it is bigger so we can walk right into LEGO world! Well we can only leave it to imagination now… … I am amazed at the feat of creating cities out of small bricks…maybe it’s just me… hahaha.
What’s disappointing for me is that they strongly advertised the LEGO structure of the Stars Wars Death star but in the end, the exhibit is being removed in it’s entirety from the Mini-World section! And there is no notice to say they are sorry etc…

LEGOLAND is big but it lacks content and imagination and does not inspire us to wanna re-visit again.
The “BIG” shop is LEGOLAND boasts to have the largest collection of LEGO collectibles in the whole of Asia, but we did not find anything unique to buy back…well, we did get a LEGOLAND magnet (which looks boring but still it’s mainly for our fridge magnet collection) and I got myself a Ninja Turtle Leonardo keychain… I quite like that..Lolz.

There is no themed restaurant in LEGOLAND so we just had a simple pizza from one of the eateries for lunch.

The most disappointing thing is the “parade”. Apparently it’s for a limited time only that there’s a parade, I think till the end of March or something, but it’s something totally not worthy of our time. We are expecting floats, cars, big props and LEGO characters dancing and performing along the way but all we saw were a bunch of 5 malays trying to be the Ninjagos of LEGO, a magician who performed in one of the shows, the 2 mascots Emmet and Wyldstyle and the lion hero from one of the LEGO series. Ok, managed to grab a picture with each of them but it’s a “since we waited so long for the parade, whatever lah just take lah” kinda kiasu mentality.

The "Parade"

We decided to pop by LEGOLAND hotel for a sneak peek after leaving LEGOLAND.
The LEGOLAND Hotel on the other hand is very well designed in our opinion. It gives us the feeling of being in a LEGO world with the setup and interior décor. The elevators are cute when disco music and light effects came on whenever the doors are closed. I like that! the rooms are all nicely themed as well from the pictures, I think any kid would love to stay in one of those rooms.

Taxi back to KSL mall for some shopping. There are a lot of shops there but we just don’t have energy to slowly walk around. Haha.
We had dinner at one the Hong Kong style café, had a stroll around and went back to hotel for a early KOONZzzz.

—————————————Day 5———————————————————-

Today is the last day of our short Malaysia getaway but there are still programs lined up! Today is Darling’s dream land… The Hello Kitty Town!
This is located at Puteri Harbour where it is located in the same building as Barney & Friends and Lat’s place.
Hello Kitty Town is the second Hello Kitty theme park we went to. Of course we went to the original Sanrio Hello Kitty World in Tokyo! We had little expectation of this Hello Kitty Town in view of the size but BOY, we enjoyed ourselves more here than at LEGOLAND! SERIOUSLY!
Inside the Hello Kitty Town, there are a few zones for us to explore. Every Zone explored will entitle us to a stamp on our journey passport card and some zones can only be visited once. The first one is Hello Kitty house, comes complete with the living room, study room, bathroom, kitchen and bedrooms.

After the kitty House, we took a break for lunch. The only themed restaurant in Puteri Harbour is Lat’s Café, where we are in an animated restaurant with props and sounds which make us feel like eating in a Kampung. There are large TVs playing Lat the Kampung boy’s comics. Quite a fun comic, showing us what a typical Kampung day is like and the Kampung games they play. The food is not bad too.

After lunch, we went back into the action of Hello Kitty Town!

Next comes the Hello Kitty show when the cute Kitty and Daniel will dance and perform in front of the kids. Really cute and fun to watch the kids having fun and dancing along to the songs!

After the show, we went to the Heartful forest Black Wonder. This is large section of the Town where we can only enter once. This is supposed to be the lair of Kuromi. Kuromi wears a black jester’s hat and is the only Sanrio character with a skull as a symbol. The story about this Black Wonder is that Kuromi loves the bow on hello kitty and has requested the Hello Kitty creator to give her a similar bow. The creator is too busy and ignored her request. So angry, she kidnapped Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel in her castle! We are supposed to be knights trying to rescue Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel from the Black Wonder. Once we enter the Black Wonder, we are given a hand lantern tagged with a sensor. This will track our progress. We will pass through a maze, collect clues from 5 locations within Black Wonder, then find the correct password from the clues gathered to save Kitty and Daniel.

We anyhow played the first time round coz halfway through we heard the announcement that the Hello Kitty Parade will start soon.

Kitty Parade

Kitty Parade

So we returned for a second round… … lucky we were allowed to try again but this time we are only given 1 lantern to share. (maybe because there is no crowd)
Full concentrated, 2 brains + 1 cutie baby brain combined, we easily conquered the Black Wonder and rescued Kitty and Daniel… all in record time for a “A” grading too! With a certificate to prove it!

Black Wonder

Next we went to the various 1-entry points, the Button badge making, the Cookie studio, the coaster crafting and the costume doll up. A pity we were denied the chance to dress up as the Kitty characters…apparently the person in charge says only catered to children, but we did see photos of adults wearing the costumes lo!!! Irritating.

Lucky we did manage to get a group shot with My Melody! And Darling shook hands with Kitty as well!

I think Darling enjoyed this Hello Kitty Town so much more than the LEGOLAND and I did too!

The Hello Kitty shop is quite big and full of cute stuff but we only got ourselves 3 fridge magnets…Darling says that we will bring cutie baby back here to buy more cute stuff after Cutie baby come out into the world. OKAY it’s a deal!

Kitty Shop and Puteri Harbour

We took a cab back to the hotel, collected our baggage and took the 1.50 Ringgit Causewaylink bus back to JB City Square.
Think we will go home already??? Not yet! At least not before we had the 許留山!

Desserts at City Square

Desserts at City Square

We did a bit of window shopping and went back Singapore.

Home Sweet Home!

It’s a short trip but definitely a fun and enjoyable one!

Darling, we will go for a Long-Awaited Europe trip after Cutie Baby come out k!

Afternote… …
The next week we went for a Gynae check and Cutie baby is now a 1.1 kg baby at week 26 (when average size is 900gm)! Oops, looks like we ate too much during our Penang trip and Cutie Baby needs to go on a diet lo.

Early scare (15 weeks)

Darling had an episode of bleeding during the first trimester. That was before our very first antenatal checkup and the bleeding soon stopped after 3 days of duphaston. Well, our Cutie baby sure likes to create drama… … in a bad way! Bleeding happened again after Darling reached 15 weeks. The good thing is there are no red flags such as abdominal pain or fever or cramps or passage of clots.
We decided to monitor for the night. There is still spotting the next morning and our regular Gynae Dr Goh Shen Li is on leave, so we have to go through the 24 hours clinic at KKH to reassure ourselves that nothing is wrong. The 24 hours clinic is a massive disappointment! We expected a more professional consultation from the doctor on duty but seems like she is more interested in clearing the crowd than reassuring us. The crowd in the 24 hour clinic was not massive to start with but the waiting time was atrocious! We waiting for about 30-45 min to get triaged even though we are 4-5 numbers away…..erm…how hard is it to triage??? After the triage, we waited about 1-2 hours for our turn with the doctor. The doctor who attended to us seems rushed…she did not do a thorough examination and missed asking some crucial questions. Once she got the history of darling having intermittent constipation, she assumed that the bleeding is due to straining during bowel output. During the examination, she just did a doppler ultrasound to locate the Cutie Baby’s heartbeat and left it as it is. At the end of the consult, all we got was “Baby’s heart is beating loud and strong, you can go back now” When asked what are the possible causes of the bleed and what should we be looking out for in the next few days, she brushed us off by saying “constipation, uterine lining loose. Take medicine and rest…” And only gave Darling MC for the day… …
Well, at least we know Cutie Baby is safe but we still don’t know why Darling has spotting suddenly. We were given duphaston again to take for a week. Poor Darling, she had nausea with vomiting with duphaston when she took them in the first trimester and she is apprehensive about taking this again. Looks like we have to go ahead with the medicine and pray for the best. At least we will be able to see our regular Dr Goh next week.
Dr SL Goh’s appointment came on 23 Dec, and it’s Darling’s 16weeks as well. She did a speculum examination and took a smear as well to rule out infection. A scan was done as well. It really calms my nerves to see Cutie Baby’s heart beating strongly! We took several pictures of Cutie Baby on ultrasound today and Cutie Baby even gave us a “Victory pose”!

Cutie Baby Pose. Victory!!

Cutie Baby Pose. Victory!!

Another piece of news Dr SL Goh gave us today….Cutie Baby could likely be a Princess Cutie!
Well, we will wait for our 20 weeks scan to confirm the gender again!
Can’t wait for the next appointment and meeting with Cutie Baby!

Happy Birthday Darling!

A year has passed and it’s christmas season now. Christmas is coming soon but the biggest event in my mind during Nov-Dec is the Birthday of my Darling. It’s the one of the most important events in my life! Hahaha, yeah I am not joking!

6 Dec is the day my Wife came to Earth, without this day, I would have no wife! I would be alone and miserable and my very existance will be in vain! Oops, am I too Drama liao?

It started with a well timed bouquet delivered home. It’s the first time Darling actually received the bouquet straight from the deliveryman at the doorstep. Delivery was planned between 7-10pm. Went to shower at 9pm when nobody came ringing our doorbell. I was bathing (good timing) and the flower deliveryman came ringing! Darling seems flustered that someone actually came ringing our door so late at night and came to ask me if I ordered anything from delivery. Haha, she looks so cute! Of course I said YES, go open the door and you will see.

This is what she saw when she opened the door.

Even though it came a few hours short of her birthday, I hope it’s still a pleasant surprise.

The following morning I presented the Birthday Cake!

SIDETRACK…. ….. ….. …. ….
The birthday cake was supposed to be a 6″ Mille Crepe from Lady M Singapore but due to some cockup on their part and some luck on my part, I got to have a free upgrade to a 9″ cake and free slice of green tea cake and a free cuppa.
I ordered a cake 1 week in advance with wordings to be written on the face of the cake but the waitress was shocked that my cake with the wordings is not yet in the shop when I went to collect.
The manager was called into action and he was nice and calm about it. He apologised and made me comfortable while he tried to arrange my cake to be sent over ASAP.
So I got to sit down and sip some coffee and enjoy a slice of cake while FB-ing.

The dinner was supposed to happen that night but darling was feeling unwell with a bloated tummy so we have to shelf the plans liao.
Tried changing the booking of my first choice restaurant but it’s fully booked for private event on 7th and 8th Dec.
No choice lah, shall do my Second choice Restaurant on 8 Dec!

It’s pouring since afternoon so it’s really tough getting a cab, more so when we are in Punggol!
After trying 20 minutes, finally a cab decided to take our booking. Heng ah!
Made our way to Telok Blangah Hill Park…heehee

It’s a nice big place, a pity upstairs was reserved for a wedding dinner, coz they have nice chandeliers… … hopefully next time got chance to come back for their afternoon tea at the Terraces!
Downstairs was nice and cozy with christmas songs in the background. Nice ambience!
The separation between tables is good so we do not hear other people’s conversations.

This is the White Truffles Season and the White Asparagus Season too! So how can we miss out on these delicacies!!
Whole White Truffles

Whole White Truffles

We ordered 2 Antipasti…
1) Pan Seared Hokkaido Scallops with Cauliflower Puree & ‘Avruga’ Caviar
It’s been a while since we had caviar. It’s such a delicacy that every piece have to be treasured. Haha. The scallops were huge and succulent and the caviar added the extra “taste of the seas”

2) White Asparagus with shaved White Truffles
This is heavenly! The white asparagus were soft and moist with that little bit of crunch and the coating of cheese with the shaved white truffles enhance the flavour totally!

Next we had a Zuppe del Giorno (Soup of the day)
It is Green Asparagus Soup with Black Truffle Scent. We ordered 1 serving but they were kind enough to help us separate into 2 bowls to share. Thumbs up for service!

Green is Darling's favorite colour

The soup is full of asparagus flavour and they even added in a piece of asparagus which has the same colour as the soup. Proving to us that they use real asparagus to make this soup?
The black truffle scent is truly just a scent, maybe they use tuffle oil, but it tastes wonderful nonetheless. Asparagus paired with Truffles really is good.

We skipped the Le Paste and jumped to Secondi (Mains)
Darling wasnted to try 1 fish and 1 meat so we ordered 1 of each.
Fish (Secondi di Pesce):

The fish flakes off beautifully and every mouthful melts your heart. Add in a scoop of the mushroom and the flavours enhanced many folds.
Meat: Secondi di Carne

The skin is cripsy and the meat is unbeliveably tender. There’s fat underneath the skin but have to eat together lah, it comes in a set! Super Yummy!!!

Finally comes the Dolce della Casa (dessert)
What’s dessert without chocolate and ice cream? And it’s even recommended by the waiter
1) Valrhona Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream & Caramel Sauce

The chocolate flowing out with the warm chocolate cake, coupled with the vanilla ice-cream is like a 3 piece orchestra playing inside your mouth, the music soothes your soul!

How can we stop at 1 dessert? Haha
2) Their signature White Chocolate & Coffee ‘Parfait’ with Espresso Sauce & Hazelnut Meringue

There is a layering of flavours, first the espresso taste hits you, within 2 seconds, the hazelnutty taste coupled with the small crisp creates the perfect fininshing move.
Even the red berry with the mint has layering of flavours. The sour straight away makes your face pruned up, then comes the sweet taste after 2 seconds, followed by the refreshing mint to complete the journey.
This is just so so nice!!!

3) Surprise Surprise!
They prepared a birthday cake for my Darling and even sang the birthday song together with me!

There’s even an “official photographer” that came over to help us snap a polaroid to keep as a memento

Sweet And Swee!

Sweet And Swee!

That completes our journey to Alkaff Mansion. A birthday celebration that spans over 3 days.
Hope my darling likes it and Hope she has a fond memory that she can keep forever!

I love you Darling!
