Our Story

Our pre-love story started in 2005 when both Xian and I just graduated and stepped into the working world.I was posted into SGH Ward 73 during my 4th month as a house officer, and that’s where I first set eyes on Weixian. She just stands out among the nurses of ward 73, being so sweet and innocent looking. Ahhh….

Our pre-love story was sizzled with radiation! I still remembered the first time we ever talked to each other was in the CT scan room in SGH. We were to accompany this dangerously ill (DIL) patient for a CT scan. While the patient was doing the scan, we started making small talk. A pity I cannot really remember what we talked about but I was really excited as it was the first time I got a chance to speak to this sweet innocent lady. Hahaha. We had several opportunities to interact subsequently, a few times was all thanks to this same malay DIL uncle. I remembered 1 time when I had to set a plug for him but he was struggling so badly, I had to get the help of the nurses to hold him down while I set the plug. Weixian came to my rescue together with a few of her colleagues. In the end, I think she was amused at how I interacted with the uncle. The uncle was delirious, so he was just uttering rubbish. Me, being the idiot, will try to imitate the uncle and talk gibberish back at him. Hmm…maybe my way of relieving the tension of having to set this difficult plug! But I guess I caught Weixian’s attention there =)

Me, being “hum ji” and cowardly, didn’t actually make the first formal contact. Weixian had to initiate our first SMS chat. Because all HO s have to carry a hospital phone, Weixian got hold of my hospital handphone number and sent me our first message. I think I still have that message somewhere but it shall remain our secret as to its contents =p but 1 thing is for sure, it’s the sweetest message I have ever received in a long long time and it remains the most important message I would ever receive. With the ice broken by brave little Weixian, I took the relationship further. I would message her day and night, during my breaks, after my ward rounds, before starting on discharge summaries, after doing bloods, whenever, wherever. Weixian would always reply me in quick succession. We found out how similar we are during these SMS exchanges! We live in the same vicinity, we even studied in the same primary school! Stamford primary school!

I decided I must have this girl…hiak hiak hiak hiak hiak……so 1 fine day during her afternoon shifts, I asked if she wanted to go home together since we live in the same vicinity and she said “Yes!” So, we started our first “date”, going home together and ate our first meal at Phin’s on Liang Seah street. We chatted for very long…3 hours? 4 hours? We digged a lot out of each other and I have never talked for so long to anybody before Weixian. Even I am amazed at how much crap I can talk…haha

Our love story started on 18 March 2006 under the traffic light. I was flying off to Shanghai with my friends for a holiday trip on 19 March 2006, and me and Xian had dinner the night before at the Sudanese restaurant in Suntec. We walked home after dinner, talking about our lives, about why we are still single, etc. Just when we are about to cross the road near our primary school, I forked out the courage to ask her a question in mandarin, “你愿意做我第一个女朋友吗?” and I held out my hand. She held it tightly and we crossed the road together. We have been holding our hands ever since.

Our pre-wedding story started on 18 March 2008. It’s our second year anniversary and I planned to propose to her that very day! We had dinner at Au Jardin, botanical gardens. I have arranged a bouquet of 99 roses to be delivered to the restaurant. We had a wonderful dinner. After dinner, I asked that we “re-live” the moments when we first came together. So we hailed a cab to Suntec and started our walk back home from Suntec. I was planning to propose to her at that very road junction we first held hands, but alas…something have to happen. I remembered the wrong junction and Xian have to correct me on that! So paiseh! Ok, I was starting to get panicky liao, because I just missed a golden opportunity! The ring is still in my pocket! Until we are outside Xian’s house….a chance came! Xian was looking for her keys in her bag while I secretly forked out the ring from my pocket. Xian was opening the door while I took up position behind her. When Xian turned around to get me into the house, I was already on my knees holding up the ring proudly. “你愿意嫁给我吗?” The answer is obvious. She cried. I cried.

And our family story shall begin on 31 Jan 2010, our ROM day. =)
