Darling’s gown wasn’t like what u see in the photos at the start… …
We had a free ROM “package”, so to say when we signed up with our bridal studio, so initially, we thought of going down to find a suitable gown for our ROM. The bridal studio has limited selection for ROM gowns and the excuse they gave was they specialise in actual day wedding gowns and evening gowns, and that ROM gowns are usually kept as FOC items, so they do not place much emphasis. Hmm….how true is that! We looked up and down and only managed to find 1 presentable one…
This is darling’s gown No. 1 -
I chose this black suit with mandarin collar, which is also the most presentable of all. I only had 3 to choose from, white, black or grey….
Darling and I are not satisfied at the gowns…we both felt that there must be nicer ones out there! With this motivation in mind, darling started to scout the internet, looking for home based boutiques which can offer more selections at competitive prices! Yup, she did find 1 located at SengKang. It is a lady from China who does import from China, Taiwan, Malaysia etc…
And now we have version No. 2 -
Darling says this makes her look fat fat, esp at the waist but I don’t think so leh…Hmm…girls definitely look at things differently from guys.
Anyway, she has bought the gown and is deciding whether to wear this or to look for another one. All girls want to look extraordinary on that special day mah, so yup, off we go to look for another gown. What better place to look than through the Net? Through recommendations from bridal forums, Darling came across this freelance designer who makes wedding gowns at reasonable prices. So darling made contact. It’s Quinn. U all can google it. The lucky one who will get a chance to tailor make darling’s gown will be Quinn!
The best way to get a perfect gown is to customize it and darling did just that. She looked through the Net, scouting for designs which she liked and saved them up. She then told Quinn what are the details she would like to have and the kind of feel she wants to create. We wanted something that is Non-white, since we are going to wear white anyway on our actual day wedding. Darling liked green and coincidentally, it’s the old SGH uniform colour, when I first met darling. So it shall be a green gown with a togo!
This is the final ROM gown, version 3!
The gown still has a bit too much of a “pong pong” feel at the front, so we got Quinn to make some ammendments, and the final one is the one darling wore on the actual ROM day!
After darling’s gown is settled and sent for making, it is dar dar’s turn to source for new wedding shoes, needles.
Darling has a nice tall shoes, so I figured I should need something to prop me up…the answer?
“It’s walking tall” shoes!
Then we went to the Oscar tailor in Peninsular plaza, as recommended by Quinn. Lucky there is a wide selection of colours I can choose for my shirt and we found 1 matching colour! We decided on grey for my suit as it will be special and it also complements the minty green gown =)
My suit set -
All set, we are ready for our ROM.
SO this is the story of how darling’s gown came about =)

31 Jan 2010, we are finally married! After such a long preparation, wah, really a big big stone off our shoulders.
The ROM was great! We even got time to prepare our personalized vows! Lolz, really sweet!
Shangri-la is really a great place for marriage ceremonies. The service is excellent and we were never disappointed with their service from start till end. Thank you Melanie for all your help!
Shangri-la provided us with a nice upgrade of room to the garden wing where we have a nice balcony overlooking the swimming pool, with the waterfall outside out hotel door and the waterfall terrace directly beneath our room.
Here, darling can do her make up while listening to the sound of the cascading waterfall. The room is spacious and clean and it has a nice big mirror for the make up too =)
I was ecstatic when I saw our flower deco! They are huge! The flowers are of big blooms and fresh and nice colours of pink. Our solemnisation table is beautifully decorated with a huge flower centerpiece and it compliments our feather pen too!
Next comes darling’s huge flower bouquet consisting of pretty pink roses with huge orchids! The stalks are nicely laced up and lined with pearls too. The even provided some loose flowers for darling’s hair deco.
We did a good long march in down the waterfall terrace walkway, lined with rose petals and petal confetti before sitting down at the solemnisation table. There is a minor hiccup though, Lolz, the ring bearer forgot to place the rings on our table! Haha, Lucky got the ever cute Claire who quickly zoomed in, placed the ring pillow, zoomed out before anyone notices.
Just to share the vows we made to each other
Mine –
“Darling, I will love you for who you areand I will accompany you for the rest of our lives.
I will try my best to complement you for we are always a team.
I will always make time for you, because without you, nothing else matters.
I will continue to give you surprises because you are my first love and my only darling.
I will lend you my ears when you need to complain and be your punching bag is needed.
I will give you my warmth if you ever feel cold and make sure you don’t shiver.
I give you this ring, as a token.
I now marry you… …”
Darling’s –
“on this special day, I give to you my promise to be by your side,
in good and bad times, in sickness and in health.
No matter what trials and tribulations may come,
I promise to always love you, comfort you and cherish you without reservation.
Now I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness to you”
I tell you, I nearly cried when I was reading our my vows! Haha. Thank you darling for your vows too!
A pity Darling is too shy to kiss me after the ring exchange…makes it look like I am forcing my kiss on her!
We commenced to the waterfall terrace for our lunch reception and darling is in for 3 surprises!
No. 1: I sang her a song by 品冠 – 无可救药. but I got Dong ting to help me make the MTV while I sing to Darling. Haha, I managed to get her to shed a few tears too! Shiok!
No. 2: I got darling to unveil a 50 x 75 cm jigsaw puzzle of us in Japan Nara with the wordings as below
